Red Sox up and down start to 2023

617 Sports Scene April 13-2023 The Boston Red Sox are assembled to be a Major League team. Right now, they are playing at the level of Triple AAA+ team. A little bit better than a Minor league team but not at the standards of a Major League caliber team let alone who they are up against in their own division. Defensively, the Sox have been subpar and that starts with Kike Hernandez. I'm not blaming him for this in the first place because he is not an everyday shortstop. I believe he is an everyday center fielder for this team and that is where he will be with Adam Duvall now out for a period of time. The moral of what I am trying to explain is the lack of decision making the front office has made with the decision to not bring back Xander Bogaerts and that is clearly showing right now. On top of the Sox problems starting out is the pitching staff and that starts with Chris Sale. He needs to be better, plain and simple. The command on his pitches has been not where it needs to be and he has been walking too many guys thus far. If Sale is going to make worth of the money he is making, he needs to turn it around quick and he knows that. One more negative with the Sox through 12 games thus far is the lack of a threat behind the plate with Connor Wong and Reese Mcguire. Guys are stealing quite frequently and more than half the throws have been non-competitive attempts to get them out. Teams will pick up on those things more now with the bigger bases and more stealing attempts. It's a long season of baseball but the Sox need to make up ground quick as the division is only better than ever.

Chris Sale through 3 starts this season: 11.25 ERA, 19 strikeouts, 7 walks, 12 innings pitched
